Whenever I mess up something or make a wrong decision I bury myself with guilt, keep thinking about what I should have done and self criticize myself constantly. The people close to me know that I am very prone to feeling guilty. After a lot, I finally learned what to do and what to tell myself after making a mistake and I want to share that.
Making mistakes is a normal thing it's human, but then again thinking about the past and finding it hard to let go is a human thing too. Letting go is really good advice but is very hard to do especially when you're emotionally attached to something or someone. After realising you've made a mistake it's important to think about whether it will affect your present and future. If it won't, whenever you think of it, remind yourself that you are not living in your past currently and it will not affect you. Just keep in mind what you did wrong and make sure to remember the lesson you learned from the mistake rather than the mistake in itself.
If the mistake you made is affecting your present or future the first step is to stop thinking emotionally no matter how hard it is, thinking practically will help you and the people around you. You have to remind yourself that life is throwing this situation at you because you are capable of dealing with this situation and learning from it. You have to remind yourself that what you're facing right now, won't stick with your forever, everything changes eventually what seems like your biggest priority right now, might be your smallest in the next 5 years.
As humans one of the hardest things we can do is let go. I find it very hard to let go, I get emotionally attached to people and situations, make dumb mistakes because of being emotional and regret it later, and cant stop thinking about them, I get stuck in this cycle. Recently breaking through it has helped me so much. No matter how hard life might seem to you right now, remember things will get better and it will all make sense, and align after a while. You got this <33
